CELEBRATING OUR FIRST CHRISTMAS AS NEWLYWEDS | HOME DECOR

Hi cuties!

I’m so excited to share this post with you because it’s such a special one.

As you know, 2019 has been a huge year for me and Trav. We moved into our first home, did some renovations in said home, planned a wedding, got married, went on our honeymoon and now we’re setting up for our first ever holiday season as husband and wife in that first home!

On top of that, Christmas has always been a super special time of year for us. Christmas is our favourite holiday … and Trav counts down and is playing Christmas music well into the summer! Plus, he proposed on December 25, so that’s our “engagement anniversary” too … if that’s a thing?!

This will also be the first year we will go to all our respective family Christmas gatherings together. Every year before we split up on December 25 because it was important for both of us to see our families on the day. This year, however, we made a decision that once we got married we would make sure we did it all together. Since my family isn’t as “strict” on celebrating Christmas on December 25, we are going to do my family’s earlier this year, and do his dad’s / mom’s side on the 25 / 26! As we get older, the more we realize how important time with family is, so we’re super happy we could make it work without too much of that “holiday drama!”

We’re excited to make a lot of “firsts” this holiday season. Besides the “firsts” listed above, we are planning on doing some holiday baking, checking out some holiday festivities in our new town (Guelph), hanging up lights outside our house for the first-time and, of course, decorating the entire inside of the house!!

The past few years we were living in a small condo that didn’t have much room for decorating, especially after we set up our huge 8 ft tree! We didn’t have a lot of opportunity to create the Christmas wonderland we wanted to.

So for our first-ever year in our new home we wanted to make sure it was special! We wanted to hang up Christmas decor everywhere we could! The only issue was we had just painted the house (ourselves … no sourcing out here!), and our stairs took us a really long time to do so we want to also be super careful with how we go about decorating!

We also live in a home that was built almost 100 years ago, which means we have plaster walls…not the best to nail into!

It took me a while to source out all our new holiday decor because we really didn’t have much coming from a smaller space. I ended up focusing on the holiday red theme and keeping the greens in faux pines / greenery where possible.

We had lots of decisions to make because we haven’t decorated this space before, which is why we tested out the positioning of some of our decorations first. We used Command™ Brand decorating hooks and clips to test out spots because we didn’t have to worry about it ruining any of our walls or furniture. Also, each of the hooks come with some extra strips, so you don’t have to worry about wasting product! And once we decided on the perfect spot, the Command™ Brand hooks/strips will come off easily without ruining any of our furniture or hard painting work!

We’re almost all done with our decorations and our home is already feeling 100x more festive then it was before, even before we actually get our tree! We’re waiting a bit because we get live trees, and if we get them too early, the pine needles start to fall before Christmas!!

Let me know what you think of our decorations so far!

xx
